Babies born in 2005!!!

If you're a mommy, you know that when it comes to your kids, the buck stops here.  It doesn't matter how many family members are willing to help or how many wonderful people you have in your life; when all is said and done, it's up to you to make sure everyone is taken care of.  Just try handing off a tired/cranky infant and see how long you last before bursting back into the room in order to calm him down (even if he won't calm down any sooner in your arms -- you just have to do something).  Put the migrane headache on hold, too... or better yet, go ahead and hold that crying infant right up next to your head and maybe the deafening sound will teach it a lesson: you can throb all you want, head, I'm not paying any more attention to you... I've got a child who needs me.  No, you can't decide how to spend your time... you are merely given permission.  Ah the shackles of love.  If it weren't for the knowledge that this too would pass, I think I might pass on the whole thing.

But children grow up all too soon (so I'm told).  Right before your tired eyes, they turn into little men and women.  They amaze your ringing ears with phrases that never entered your mind before.  And all too soon, their tiny hugs will be replaced by anxiously-awaited phone calls from college or elsewhere.  I'm sorry... I can't finish this post.  I need to go watch my sleeping children and thank God I get to be their mommy.

Potty training... [Jun. 15th, 2007|08:45 am]
Babies born in 2005!!!

purfectangel17
Well I thought we had this potty training going in a good direction. She does like to sit on the potty but she hasn't done anything in it for a while. As soon as she puts her pull-up back on...then she goes. I'm at a loss. My husband is at home with her during the day, but he isn't very helpful. He forgets to get her to sit on the potty during the day. So basically if she doesn't tell him then he doesn't do it. I'm thinking this is why we are going backwards. If I am doing it with her during my time off and he isn't then I guess we aren't instilling it into her brain that this is where she needs to be to use the bathroom. Anyone have any suggestions on how to motivate my husband to help me with this? He helped with my son, so I don't know if it is a gender thing or not.

I live in Scranton PA and jr developed a fever this morning and i took him to the docs and they can not figure out what is causing it and she told me it was her 3rd case tonight. but she says not to worry it only lasts 24 to 48 hrs so i hope it passes quick. but i was wondering if it has happen anywhere else besides in our little city. EKG results [Apr. 28th, 2007|10:11 pm]

I just realized I never posted an update.  Nicholas did pretty well at the Cardiologist's office, except they can never get a good height measurement and this was the first time anyone's tried taking his blood pressure -- hello, he's 2, there's no way he's going to sit still while this thing squeezes the pudge out of his arm.  The nurse came back in and told me, "Oh! I usually take it off when the arm starts turning red"... Nick's arm was nearly purple but it didn't seem to bother him.  She had him shake it out and he was fine. He was intrigued by the little stickers (and thankfully, they didn't hurt coming off).  She put them all over his chest and gave him a few to put on my arm as a distraction.  We got to watch his heart beat/info on the monitor... too bad he had no idea what it was.  The Cardiologist listened for a long time and looked at the EKG print-out to confirm the innocent heart murmer his Pediatrician had suspected.  BUT, that means his heart is completely normal!  He said almost every child gets one at some point in their childhood (I had no idea!) and that some will go undetected between yearly visits because they can go away and re-emerge.  It's a strange thing.  I am very relieved, though.

2 year old well check stats [Apr. 10th, 2007|10:45 pm]

Just as we suspected, Nicholas is a stout young man: 30 pounds (75th %ile in weight) and 34 inches (50th %ile in height).  His vocabulary is "phenomenal" according to his doctor who about fell out of her chair when he very clearly said "open the garage door" and proceeded to pretend with his hands going up and down, noises and all.  Opening the garage doors and running around is his absolute favorite thing to do at home and he rarely gets to do it because it wears us plum out... mainly making sure he doesn't get squashed when they come down.  The doctor said almost all two year olds are saying two word sentences like "up please", but four words strung together is really an accomplishment.  It crosses my mind that he may be imitating an entire phrase, but he seems to understand the words separately because when he held her key (a distraction from having his ears looked into) he said "open the door"... distinguishing that this is not what we use to open the garage door, but a house or car door instead.  And he is really articulate, taking the time to say the whole word before moving onto the next word.

The not-so-perfect part of the story: we've been referred to a Cardiologist for an EKG.  It sounds much scarier than it is.  The doctor really just wants to confirm what she hears as an innocent heart murmur which should go away by the time he's 5.  I asked about the sound, whether there are levels (like, is there a borderline innocent murmur or is the sound completely different?) and that's when she decided to go ahead and make the referral, even though she implied that the sound would be different and we'd see other symptoms like low activity level or bluish lips.  The Cardiology visit doesn't sound too traumatic in the sense that it won't be painful or long (just a few stickers on his chest for about a minute), but I know it will freak him out.  *sigh*

"Happy Party!" as my 2 year old puts it... [Mar. 6th, 2007|09:37 pm]

I was really pleased that the weather was so nice.  Everyone had a great time... no fussing, except for Nicholas not wanting his hands and face wiped instead of eating more cake.  The only reason that piece was so big was because the first one fell over and we wanted a nice piece for the candles instead of risking possible spit or handprints in the whole cake.
