Death to the Binkies [Feb. 28th, 2007|10:01 pm]
Babies born in 2005!!!

I originally wrote this in my myspace blog on Sunday and forgot to post it here.  I'm sorry I went back to work a couple weeks ago and have been slipping on my livejournal posts.  I'll work harder on that.

So yeah there is one binky still around the house somewhere but it's not in either of the babies mouths .  YAY  :)  Of course maybe Brian has it but I seriously doubt it.  :)  This is the second night that we've been binky free.  I just go so sick of looking for the darn things, those kids really do know how to hide them.  And it's better for them and it's done all at once like I wanted.  I am so happy, you don't even know.  Of course the trade off is that I have to hear them cry as they put themselves to sleep but honestly it hasn't been that bad.  I thought Justin was going to be the harder one to deal with it, but it seems like Kara is more upset than he is over the whole thing.

And of course, my timing kind of sucks with this thing. We'll see how Justin does tomorrow.  He's starting at a new daycare and I'm sure he'll do fine without it there, but I also wonder if I should at least put the one floating around here in his diaper bag just in case.  Nah, it's better that we go cold turkey all the way.  I'm sorry to Heather in advance if this causes trouble.

I guess that's it for now. I'll update again on the binky thing later in the week and let you know how it's progressing.  Honestly I see it being all downhill from here.

Justin's two-year-old appt [Feb. 20th, 2007|08:27 pm]
Babies born in 2005!!!

Justin went to the doctor for his two-year-old appt today.  He's 32lbs (75th percentile) and 35in long (80th percentile)  The nurse practionier (sorry if the spelling is off) asked a whole bunch of questions and seemed to like the answers so as far as two-year-olds go he's right on track.  End results:  Looks great, height and weight are awesome, developing good, no shots and we don't have to go back for another year, unless of course he gets sick again, which we hope does not happen.

A funny story about the shots.  I went back to work the Thursday before last so of course both the kids have had to adjust.  Jill was nice enough to pick them up for me and bring them down to work so I wouldn't have to take more time off and drive up to Mary's before going to the doctor.  Jill says that Mary put Justin down for a nap, but I don't think it was a very long one.  He got upset half way to the car leaving work and cried most of the time at the doctors.  (He hates being undressed so of course that didn't help much)  I was so nervous, cuz I had both of them and no one to help, thankfully Kara behaved and was happy just sitting on the floor and watching.  All I kept thinking was if they were going to give him shots how was I going to deal with it??  He was already this upset I couldn't imagine having to hold him down so that he could get shots he didn't.  I was thankful when she said we didn't need them, and then I laughed.  Justin has always done good with shots, cried when they were first adminstered, got cuddle time with me and then he was fine.  He cried more, the first time they haven't given him shots, than he ever has when he's been given shots.  Weird how things happen sometimes, isn't it.

Well, gotta get the kids to bed now.  I will post again soon.  Have a nice night everyone.

My 21 month old daughter keeps hitting people and throwing things when she gets mad.

How can I discipline my daughter without her thinking hitting is okay. I feel that how can I tell her not to hit when I spank her when she hits. Now she is going around hitting her brothers when she gets mad at them or they do something she doesnt want them to do.

She is also going around throwing things when she is mad. Or when I tell her she cant hanve something she throws it at me or across the room.

Steve (her step dad) said to put her in her room in the playpen so she can see all the things she could be playing with but cant since she is in trouble. So, I tried that this morning but then she throw things at the wall and started screaming VERY LOUD!!

And I have a 5 month old that she wakes up everytime she gets mad by SCREAMING!!!

Help... PLEASE I NEED ADVICE!!!

People have told me many times, "you're tired of the crying? Well, just wait until they start talking" and I have responded, "at least then he will be able to communicate what he needs.  Surely, talking is better than not talking".  But ah, the grass is always greener in front of someone else's child.  Strolling through the grocery store yesterday, he must've said, "more cookies?" about a hundred times in a row (and yes, he even got the 's' in there -- simply amazes me).  He'd had one cookie at the babysitter's house and I promised that if he was a good boy at the haircut place that afternoon, we'd go to the store and get him another cookie.  Lo and behold, the boy was an angel in the barber chair... a first for him.  So, the first aisle we went down was the cookie aisle.  "There you go, son... eat it slowly."  But I had a bit more shopping to do.  He likes trying to open various jars of stuff and look at the front of the cereal boxes... but it doesn't last long.  I can't offer to let him hold a banana because he will beg to eat one... not understanding that we have to get them weighed and pay for them first.  So, once we finally got to the car (20 minutes shopping with an almost 2 year old seems like forever -- you can't get done soon enough!), I started a banana for him.  Part of the way home, I noticed in the rear-view mirror that he's having trouble getting to the banana as he's reached the point where it needs to be peeled again.  "Would you like Mommy to fix it?" I said, and he handed it to me.  Problem solved.  A few stop lights later, I heard his tiny voice ask, "fik nana?" and I was stunned.  He not only understood the bulk of my sentence eariler, he had isolated the verb "fix" and knew it's something I was doing to his banana to help.  I could swear there was a glow coming from the back seat.  He is one smart child.  (Ok, I'm a little biased... hehehehe).  There is one word I already have to undo, though: "boobies".  We think it's funny... Nicholas jams his hand down my shirt and giggles... but I would be quite embarrassed if it happened in public or when someone else was holding him!!

my baby girl [Feb. 5th, 2007|11:40 am]
Babies born in 2005!!!

I can't believe my little girl is going to be 2 next month. It just doesn't seem like it was that long ago that she was born. For the last couple of weeks she has had this thing with taking her diaper off as soon as she has used it. It has been quite disgusting at times. I told my husband that we needed to get her a potty chair because she is showing signs of getting ready for it. So I found her one that plays music once it senses liquid. It is really kind of neat. She loved it...every time i would ask her if she wanted to go potty she would shake her head yes and run to the bathroom. Most of the time we were too late but she did manage to use it twice. One of those times she told daddy she had to.
I have always been told that girls are easier to potty train than boys. My son is 4 1/2 now and wanted nothing to do with it at her age. He didn't want anything to do with it when he was 3. I didn't think we were ever going to get him potty trained. I think this time is going to be a lot better experience.

Brian and Justin's Birthdays [Feb. 5th, 2007|10:10 am]
Babies born in 2005!!!

doryfish426
I can't believe my baby boy is two.  Heck I can't believe my big boy is eight.  It doesn't seem possible, where does the time go??  So yeah this past weekend my two beautiful boys celebrated their birthdays.  Brian on Friday and Justin yesterday.  We are having a party for Brian on Sunday at the bowling alley in town.  Of course he is esctatic about that.  He just can't figure out why it couldn't have been this weekend :(  Don't fret, he did get cake.  Holly made him his own cake on Thursday when we went over for our weekly dinner.  Plus he's going to get one at his regular birthday party and we are having a party with our friends soon and I plan on making both the boys a cake then.

So yeah yesterday we had a party for Justin.  I thought it was going to be a mostly family party but the only family that ended up coming was my parents and my in~laws.  I think my grandmother would have come but she broke her arm a couple of weeks ago and can't really drive.  Knowing her she probably still is but I'm sure my dad would not allow her to drive that far.  It was nice to have a little simple party and the food was excellent.  Besides us, my parents and my in~laws Jill and Tom and Amy and Evelyn was there.  I don't think any of us stopped laughing at least a little the whole time.  Justin got to see his first birthday cake (we unfortunately didn't give him one last year) and wanted to touch the candles more than actually blow them out.  No worries, Brian was there to help :)  Kara got to have her own little piece and she made a bigger mess than Justin with some of it getting on me :)  For presents Justin got cars.  Lots of cars  :)  He loves cars.  Seriously, my mom got him a button controlled PT Cruiser that right now he is completely petrified of if it moves :)  I'm sure he'll get over it but it made my mom feel bad :(  Jill and Tom got him a four pack of 4X4 trucks which is awesome cuz it so reflects Jill.  Amy and Evelyn got him a little race track thing with some cars.  The cool thing about this is that the cars that they got him for Christmas go with the track also so he has a ton of cars to go on the track.  I love gifts like that.  Karl did something like that with Justin's Christmas and Birthday gifts last year.  My mother~in~law gave him a book that has counting in it based on toys falling out of the bed.  It's sooo cute.

After Jill and Tom and my in~laws left Amy, Brian and I played a new game that Amy's brother~in~law created called FishAntics.  I love it.  It's like go-fish with cards resembling the Magic role playing cards with things you do once you put a match down.  I highly recommend it and if anyone wants to try it out or get a deck let me know and we can work something out, I'm sure.

Oh yeah I guess I should tell you what we got the boys.  So far we got Brian a Splinter toy from TMNT.  He loves it!!  He also got a gift card from Wal~Mart from Holly and Dick in which he bought a bionicle and $20 from my parents which we haven't had a chance to spend yet.  He has more gifts from us but we are waiting for his party to give them to him.  We got Justin just one thing, but he does love it.  It's one of those things were you move beads along wires that are in different patterns.  I think the thing he likes the most is that it's small so he can carry it around the house with him and play with it either in his room or the living room.

I guess that it's for now.  I post pics when I get a chance to.

sickness [Feb. 5th, 2007|10:02 am]
Babies born in 2005!!!

[mood |sleepysleepy]

So what to say.  These blog things are pretty neat considering you get a clean slate every time you go type one.  Every time you click on "post new blog" you get this white sketch pad that you could do almost anything with.  That's just so awesome to me.

So yeah, we had a semi-party last night.  Everyone came up and we had lasanga, ribs and birthday cake.  As far as I know everyone had a good time.  It was fun and I did enjoy it.  Karl was being Karl and stayed mainly in his room, but he did socialize for a little while and that's good for him so I can't complain.  I'm sure someone else might but oh well, I'm not too worried about that.

While the party was going on Justin's cold from this previous week seemed to escalate a little.  And then it got so late and he was so tired that he ended up almost falling asleep sitting up in the living room while he was playing with Kara, Evelyn and Zachy.  So of course we put him to bed and he fell right to sleep.  The whole thing was actually kind of cute.  Unfortunately in the middle of the night he woke up and just was having trouble breathing.  He actually never woke up but you could tell it was bothering him.  We decided to keep him in our bed for the night.  I got to spend the night next to him.  It was awful to hear him.  We probably should have called the docs then but he was still sleeping and really never actually woke up.  I guess I just couldn't bear to wake him up if he was that tired.  When he did wake up this morning we called the docs right away and they said to bring him to the ER.  They were very nice there and took very good care of my little guy.  First they put him in a johnnie, which I know is nothing, but both Karl and I wished we had brought a camera cuz he just looked too darn cute in it.  They took his temp, his pulse-ox and all the other vital stuff.  They ended up taking x-rays.  Karl took him, which at first I wanted to go but Karl said that they didn't even let him hold Justin and cuz it was so dark in there and they had this thing pointed at him Justin kind of freaked a little.  I don't think I could have handled that.  I had to do it last May when he got sick like this and it was awful.  After the x-ray we had to wait a while.  Kara did rather well considering she was really bored and after Justin's meds kicked in you could definitely tell that he was feeling a bit better.  Finally the doc came back and gave us scripts and told us what to look for and to get a follow-up appt with Justin's doc in 2-3 days.

So now we are home and Justin is still doing good.  We have to give him breathing treatments like every 3 hours which he hates but if it's going to make him feel better I'm willing to put up with a cranky kid.  Besides if he doesn't need it we don't have to do it anymore.  He's also going to be steroids for 12 days and he has amoxicilin for the two ear infections he also has.  I guess in a nut shell my baby is sick but is also getting better as we speak  :)  I love him so much and I hate to see him feeling this badly :(

I'll update more as more comes
